Eye of the Beholder

19th Century French Watercolor Painting (#63) by Alphonse Baril

PICTURE PERFECT

In the 19th-century, artist Alphonse Baril depicted the French countryside from diverse perspectives. John's collection of Baril's works on paper includes pieces with jagged edges and the artist's annotations, giving the impression that they were torn directly from his sketchbook. Later, in the early 20th-century, Netherland-based artist, Evert Rabbers, began depicting the people and places of his village in the Netherlands. John has collected a vast cache of his portraits and idyllic landscapes. 100 years later British artist Hugo Guinness creates bold, whimsical block prints of objects, flowers, animals, and people. His work now includes colorful paintings viewed with his characteristic eye. Pursue the work of all three artists, as well as our entire art & wallhanging collection here.
